Here are the answers to the most common questions we receive. If you can’t see your question here, please book your online appointment through HotDoc portal and our team will get you an answer.
A telehealth GP consultation is a phone appointment with an Ahpra-registered Australian medical practitioner. You discuss your health concerns the way you would in a clinic, and anything the doctor may issue, such as prescriptions, certificates or referrals, is sent to your phone or inbox afterwards.
An online GP appointment works in four steps: choose a time through the booking portal, pay for the consultation, complete any pre-consultation forms and answer the doctor's call at the scheduled time.
An online doctor can help with most non-emergency health concerns, from infections and allergies to men's and women's health, along with prescriptions, medical certificates, pathology and imaging requests and specialist referrals.
Under Medics Online's prescribing policy, controlled medicines, drugs of dependence, ADHD medicines, sleeping medicines or weight-management medicines aren't prescribed through online consultations.

Telehealth is suitable for many non-emergency health concerns. Some conditions require a physical examination, testing or urgent in-person care, and the doctor will advise if telehealth is not clinically appropriate.

No, you don't need an app for a telehealth appointment. Consultations happen over a standard phone call, so there's nothing to download and no video link to set up. You’ll need to be located in Australia at the time of your consultation and have access to an Australian phone number where you can receive the call.
It’s that easy.
If you miss a telehealth appointment, email the clinic and a new time can be arranged. Where you may know in advance that a time no longer works, rescheduling before the appointment is straightforward and encouraged.
Yes, a family member can join a telehealth consultation, and so can a carer or another support person. Having someone else on the call often helps with remembering details and asking the questions you might forget.
Yes, parents can book telehealth appointments for their children. The parent or guardian makes the booking, and is required to join the call and stays involved throughout the consultation, exactly as they would at a clinic visit.
Yes, follow-up appointments are available through telehealth. Reviewing test results, checking how a treatment is going, and continuing a longer conversation are all standard reasons to book a second consultation.
No, you don't need a Medicare card for a telehealth appointment. A Medicare number or Individual Healthcare Identifier (IHI) becomes necessary only for eScripts, and Medicare eligibility is one of the conditions for bulk billing.
You pay for a telehealth appointment online at the time of booking, through a secure payment process. The applicable private consultation fee is paid at the time of booking. Any adjustment required under our billing or refund policy will be managed after assessment.
