Online Prescriptions in Australia
Has your script run out? With Medics Online, you can get a prescription online anywhere in Australia through a phone consultation with a registered medical practitioner. You talk to the doctor from wherever you happen to be, and if a prescription is right for you and falls within our prescribing policy, your eScript is sent straight to your phone, ready to fill at the pharmacy of your choice and often on the very same-day.
Every script is written by an Ahpra-registered medical practitioner after a real conversation about your health, and our clinical team includes GPs and doctors who hold Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP).
How to Get a Prescription Online
From booking to eScript, the entire process can happen within the same day, subject to the doctor’s availability and clinical suitability:
1. Book online
2. Receive Confirmation
3. Consultation & Payment
4. Receive Your Documents (if clinically appropriate)
Your eScript token works at your pharmacy in Australia. Show the SMS at the counter, or forward it to your preferred pharmacy if they offer home delivery.
Repeat Prescriptions Without Visiting a Doctor in Person
If you take regular medication and your script has run dry, a $40 phone consultation with one of our GPs can have a new eScript on your phone the same day, subject to appointment availability and clinical suitability.
The doctor will still ask a few questions to make sure the medication remains appropriate for you. Not every medication suits an online repeat script, and your doctor will be honest with you if yours is better managed by your regular GP or an in-person consultation.
What You'll Need to Receive an eScript
To receive an eScript, you’ll just need to book for a consultation along with providing your Medicare number, DVA details or your Individual Healthcare Identifier (IHI). If you’re not eligible for Medicare, you can apply for an IHI through Services Australia, which keeps the service open to international visitors and anyone else without a Medicare card who are currently located in Australia.
Medications we don't prescribe online
For safety and regulatory reasons, as a part of our prescribing policy, controlled medications or drugs of dependence, ADHD medicines, sleeping medicines or weight-management medicines aren’t prescribed through our telehealth consultation services.
FAQs
Yes. Your eScript can be dispensed at your pharmacy in Australia, whether that's your local chemist or a pharmacy near where you're travelling.
All scripts come from our own doctors. Nothing here is automated, and no prescription is issued without a doctor speaking with you first.
If a prescription is issued following your consultation, your eScript token can be sent to your mobile by SMS. You can then present the token at a pharmacy to have your medication dispensed.
Your consulting telehealth GPs may prescribe antibiotics where clinically appropriate, within the prescribing policy of Medics Online. Antibiotics are never guaranteed, and some infections may require an in-person examination or testing before treatment can be recommended.
If the doctor considers a prescription clinically appropriate, you may receive an eScript by SMS shortly after your consultation. Appointments are available until 11 pm AEST, seven days a week, subject to doctor availability through our booking portal.
Please contact us if you accidentally delete your eScript SMS token. We’ll check whether the token can be resent or whether the prescription needs to be reissued.
Prescription and dispensing information may be uploaded to My Health Record where the relevant systems, legal requirements and patient settings permit. Patients can manage their My Health Record access and privacy settings.
International visitors who are currently in Australia are very welcome to book a consultation, subject to identity requirements and clinical suitability. To receive an eScript, you'll need an Individual Healthcare Identifier (IHI), which you can apply for through Services Australia, along with access to an Australian phone number for your call.
Most consultations are privately billed. Limited bulk billing may be available where the patient and consultation meet Medicare requirements. Eligibility depends on the patient’s circumstances, applicable Medicare telehealth requirements and the clinical service provided. Any eligibility will be confirmed before billing is finalised.
